Taxonomical note

This taxon is treated here as bona species and not as subspecies of Macroglossum insipida Butler, 1875 since there is proof that both are indeed separated. The genitalia of both taxa are different and there is a gap in the distribution area of both.

Distribution

 

 

STATUS: Widely distributed in New Guinea but not very common.

PAPUA LOCALITIES: Waigeo; Salawati; New Guinea: Digul District, Jayapura, Mapia (Kobowre Mts.*), Pionierbivak, Sorong. Details in gazetteer.

EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION: Papua New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago, North Queensland (Australia).
