The Euteliinae (Lepidoptera: Euteliidae) of Papua Indonesia

by Rob de Vos

Paectes cyanodes Turner, 1902

Distribution

STATUS: Widely distributed in New Guinea. In Papua it is a rare species. Paectes cyanodes is very similar to P. cristatrix. The subbasal streak runs down to the dorsum in cristatrix while in cyanodes it is straight and runs obliquely to the base of the wing. Furthermore in both species the medial line is somewhat irregular curved (in kebeae and psaliphora regular), but the line in cyanodes is longer than in cristatrix. Paectes cristatrix has not been recorded yet from Papua but is expected to occur here.

PAPUA LOCALITIES: Batanta Island: South coast; Biak Island: Biak; New Guinea: Borme. Details in gazetteer.

EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION: Papua New Guinea.
