The Tropical Burnet Moths (Lepidoptera: Lacturidae) of Papua Indonesia

by Rob de Vos

Lactura callopisma (Walsingham, 1900)

Distribution

STATUS: A rare species. So far only known from two specimens. Alfred Russel Wallace collected the holotype in "New Guinea", which most likely was in Dorey (now Manokwari) or in the northern Arfak. The other places he visited were in the Raja Ampat Islands and that would have been mentioned literally on the label. The appearance is unusual for Lactura species. It is a mimic of species of the Damias genus in Lithosiini (Erebidae, Arctiinae).

PAPUA LOCALITIES: New Guinea: Dorey (Manokwari), Mimika River. Details in gazetteer.

EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION: none.

DATA SOURCES: BMNH, OXUM.
