The Ennominae (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) of Papua Indonesia

by Rob de Vos

Eubordeta eccrita Jordan, 1912

ssp. eccrita Jordan, 1912
ssp. barensteinerae Schaarschmidt, 2014

Distribution

STATUS: The species is distributed in the western part of New Guinea with two subspecies. In contrary of what is mentioned by Schaarschmidt (2014) the specimens from Mt. Kunupi (and Paniai area) are of the nomotypical phenotype. He also mentioned Mt. Goliath (the type locality of eccrita) being the same as Gn. Trikora, which is not. Mt. Goliath is Gn. Mandala and Gn. Trikora is the former Mt. Wilhelmina near Lake Habbema, which is a totally different habitat. Subspecies barensteinerae seems to be restricted to the Baliem Valley and Pass Valley. There seems to be quite some variation in the extension of the colours red and orange, so it is questionable if the designation of ssp. barensteinerae is justified.

PAPUA LOCALITIES: New Guinea: ssp. eccrita: Araboebivak, Enarotali, Mt. Goliath. Mt. Kunupi, Okbibab, Paniai, Udataida; ssp. barensteinerae: Pass Valley, Wamena. Details in gazetteer.

EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION: none.
