Distribution

 

 

STATUS: A common species, which is mainly found in lowland areas. The species is in the higher mountains replaced by Asota montanorbona Miller & Holloway, 2022. The species is rather variable in wing pattern. Most distinguishing character in the pattern are the two black dots at the base of the basal oval patch, which are not so oblique in position as in montanorbona.

PAPUA LOCALITIES: Supiori: Nansfori; Biak: Biak, Bosnik; Yapen: Karopai; Waigeo; Misool; New Guinea: Affi, Andai, Arbuejo (Tamrau Mts), Ati Ati Onin, Demaisi, Ifar, Jayapura, Fakfak, Humboldt Bay, Lereh, Manokwari, Meja Reserve, Nabire, Senopi, Sentani, Sorong, Tamrau Utara, Timeepa, Waena, Werba. EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION: With four subspecies it is distributed from the Moluccas (Ambon, Halmahera) to Woodlark Island, southeast from New Guinea, but restricted to lowland.
