STATUS: A rare species. Subspecific assignment of the West Papuan records has not yet been established. Hypolycaena sipylus pictor Fruhstorfer, 1912 is a generally available name, used for the race from Waigeo and this may also include the specimens from mainland West Papua

PAPUA LOCALITIES: Waigeo Island; New Guinea: Arfak Mts., Fakfak, Sorong. Details in gazetteer.

EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION: Widespread in the Indo-Australian Region, just reaching Western New Guinea.
